SA: Submarine Corp lays off 15 workers

ADELAIDE, Dec 11 AAP - The Australian Submarine Corporation has sacked 15 workers from
its Osborne facilities in Adelaide.

"It's very unfortunate when we lose highly skilled people, but the reality is that
major fabrication work on the submarines is now complete and the mix of skills required
has changed," a spokesman for ASC said yesterday.

News of the sackings followed revelations the navy had only 40 per cent of the personnel
it needed to crew all six of its troublesome Collins submarines.

Eaerlier this week, the federal government announced it would spend more than $250
million upgrading two of the subs.
